I just looked at my face in the mirror and realized that I am getting old!!  Funny, I hadn’t noticed that before.

Pastor Ed would tell you it is because I’ve lost a lot of weight.  After all, I’ve always said “I’ll never look old, ‘cause fat never wrinkles”

Oh, the joys of growing older.  Someone asked me if I feel better since I’ve lost a lot of weight and am working out.  I’ve been thinking about that.  All I can say is that I think I have MORE good days now but, still not a lot.

The Bible says in Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.

If I had any hair, I suppose it would be gray.  I praise God that through the atoning death of His Son I can unequivocally say that I have a righteous life.  I’m not bragging, for my righteousness apart from Christ is like filthy rags (Is. 64:6).

Though my body is growing old and the bones tend to creek and groans are emitted from somewhere deep inside me, I must say that I am enjoying getting older.  I really appreciate the senior discount at the restaurant and I’m ready for a steady diet of “early birds”.

I think I may actually be getting wiser and I am finding that friends and family are becoming so much more important to me.  The Word of God seems to be getting richer all the time and just sitting before Him is awesome.

It is good to sit before the Lord and listen for Him.  Or to converse face to face, and spend time with those that I love.  I must say, I’ve never been one to sit very long, but now I find that sitting in the presence of loved ones is so enjoyable.

I praise God that I can still be used by Him and that, if it is His will, I’ll continue to be used by Him for many years.

In other nations, senior citizens don’t have life quite as easy as we do, nor do they have the opportunities that we have.

For example, in the Congo seniors are banished by society and rejected by their kin.  vaFINAL judgments.

We have many gray haired, seasoned saints at Glenvale and I’m so thankful for all of them.  Many of them still work tirelessly, being used of the Lord and, though their bodies are becoming weaker, they will not give up.  They continue to serve Him.  I think that there are some here who will serve Him until their last breath.

Glory to God!!!

I want to encourage you, if you are approaching that “senior citizen” status, don’t worry God can and will still use you.

One of the very best things you can do is to set the example for younger folks in the congregation.  You can still assume a teaching or mentoring role for those who have not had the life experiences that you have had.  Ladies, you can teach younger women how to be Godly wives and mothers.  Likewise, men you can teach younger men to become Godly husbands and fathers.

Titus 2:1-8 tell us… But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

Lastly, if you are not able bodied enough to minister to the needs of others, then pray – pray and pray.

You’ll always be needed in God’s kingdom and definitely in the Glenvale Church of God.
