I think of November as "the month of thanksgiving".  Yes, I know we are to give thanks always.  But, November is set aside, by our government,  to thank God for his provision.

Yet, I can' help but wonder how long it will be before the government abolishes Thanksgiving as a national holiday.

Years ago, the thought of abolishing the federal holiday of Thanksgiving would not have even crossed my mind, but as I contemplate the spiritual condition of our country today, I must wonder.

Even if the holiday is not abolished, the question will be, "to whom do we give thanks".  Christ is begin removed from Christmas and Easter, so why not remove Him as the object of our thanksgiving?

I shutter at the thought.  But, the truth is Thanksgiving Day is all about thanking God for His hand of protection and bounty.

The first Thanksgiving was held in the fall of 1621 in Plymouth, MA. by the original passengers of The Mayflower.  About 1/2 of the original group of 100 Puritan Separatists died during the voyage or during the first year.

Those remaining thanked their Lord, Jesus Christ for safety and for His provision.

Of course, the Lord Jesus Christ is also the One to whom we give thanks. In a world that is turning from the worship of the Messiah, what will tomorrow bring?

I urge you to pray, really pray for our nation as we approach this Thanksgiving Holiday, and even more before the elections.  Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will have His own way and that He would withhold His judgment upon us and cause us to humble ourselves, to seek His face and to repent of our sins as a nation and as individuals.

If we draw close to Him, He will draw close to us and begin to bless us again.

1 Chron 16:8 8 Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.
